Caiphus Nyoka celebrated
Daveyton - The ANC Youth League in Ward 71, also known as the Caiphus Nyoka branch, held a memorial lecture last Sunday at the Timken Youth Centre to remember and celebrate the life of Caiphus Nyoka who was brutally killed in 1987 during apartheid.
Chairperson of the branch, Nomathemba Radebe (34), says the party wanted to celebrate and teach young people about the life of the fallen hero, who died for the struggle against apartheid.
“The youth of today need to be educated and taught about the history of their local heroes who fought so they may have education and the freedom they are enjoying now,” says Radebe.
She adds the lecture is relevant to the youth of today because Nyoka was a youth leader who wanted a better education for the youth of South Africa.
Alegria Nyoka (60), Caiphus’ sister, expressed the family’s gratitude for the event held in her brothers’s honour and to teach the youth and community of Daveyton about the vision he had for South Africa.
“We, as a family, are overwhelmed that our brother’s visions and legacy has not been forgotten and we want the youth to follow his lead to strive to get educated and to stop alcohol and drug abuse,” says Alegria
