Gauteng police launch manhunt after officer and civilian killed in Tsakani
Gauteng police are investigating the fatal shooting of an off-duty Public Order Policing officer and a civilian in Tsakani Ext 14.
The provincial commissioner of SAPS in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, sent his heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of a Public Order Policing (POP) member and a civilian who were shot dead on the evening of June 1 in Tsakani Ext 14.
According to the provincial police, the off-duty officer was reportedly at a local supermarket when he was attacked by three men who shot him dead.
The suspects reportedly proceeded to another street around the corner and shot another victim inside his vehicle.
The police stated that the motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage, and police investigations are underway.

“An attack on a police officer is tantamount to an attack on the State. I have mobilised resources, working together with the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation to ensure that those who committed this barbaric act are brought to book.
“We further appeal to our communities to work together with the law enforcement, particularly the SAPS, to fight against crime,” said Mthombeni.
The police urged the public to report any criminal activity on the Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111 or to provide tip-offs anonymously on the MySapsApp, which can be downloaded on any smartphone.
