Local churches donate to widows
KwaThema - The Interdenominational Mothers Union in KwaThema and the Hlanganani Women's Manyano from the KwaThema Methodist Church donated groceries to widows and orphans at the Republican Trinity Church in KwaThema last Thursday.
The generous donation was made possible by a company that awarded Bishop Timothy Shabangu (66), from Republican Trinity Church, R5 000 to help underprivileged community members.
He sought help from the women’s organisations to identify widows and orphans in the community in need of assistance.
According to Shabangu, there are far too many women who suffer after their husbands have died and it is imperative, as churches, to take care of them.
“Orphans and widows become vulnerable because they don’t have people to turn to after the passing of their breadwinners, so as churches in the community we have taken it upon ourselves to help them where we can,” says Shabangu.
He adds they will continue to reach out to companies and organisations to assist them in making a difference to the lives of orphans and widows in the community.
