Light to shine on good men
Communities are encouraged to nominate outstanding men, they see as positive role models in their neighbourhoods for the South African Men of the Year Awards.
This initiative which seeks to celebrate the men of this country is encouraging communities to identify good men and of positive behaviour.
Chairman of the Gauteng Men’s Federation, Rev Mbulelo Dyasi, says there are many honourable men in communities, who are alleviating suffering and preserving human dignity through the various roles they play.
For this reason, these awards are not for personal achievements but rather positive character awards.
“These awards should encourage people to think about South African men who promote good values in their work, families and communities and those who assist and advocate on behalf of vulnerable persons.
“Many times we just see bad men in media but the men who do well are scarcely recognised.
“Now, we want to put a spotlight on good men and their work so that they can continue being great role models, especially to our sons,” says Dyasi.
The 10 award categories are, health, sports, education, entrepreneurship, community developer, arts and culture, leadership, youth developer, science and technology, and man of the year.
The nomination process includes identifying a candidate and SMSing their details.
Nominations close on October 30.
The awards will then be held at Emperors Palace on November 30.
