Former principal dies

Geluksdal - Rachel Mnyakeni died on January, 13.

She was born on January 11, 1959, in Payneville and was educated at Payneville Middelbare Skool, where she acquired her Junior Certificate in 1975.

Mnyakeni furthered her studies at the Johannesburg College of Education, where she obtained her teacher’s certificate in 1977.

She started her teaching career in 1978, at Payneville Secondary School, which later moved and became Geluksdal Primary School.

Mnyakeni was committed to furthering her studies while teaching and, in 1990, obtained her National Senior Certificate, followed by her teacher’s diploma and, in 1996, her Higher Education diploma.

She later became the principal of Geluksdal Primary and served the school until 2013.

Mnyakeni played a great role in the development of her community and her learners.

She is survived by her husband, Phillip Mnyakeni, her two daughters, Nomhle and Sphiwe Mnyakeni, her two brother and three sisters.

The funeral service will be held at 8am, at Riohoboth Christian Fellowship, at 760 Rockyrapid Curve, Geluksdal.

The cortège will leave for the Brakpan Cemetery at 11am.
