Police appeal to victims to come forward

KwaThema – Three men from Duduza have been arrested for armed robbery, possession of suspected stolen property, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

This comes after the trio first robbed two females and one male at about 12.45am at New Payneville in KwaThema, at Voyi Street on March 14.

“The two females aged 24 and 25 and the male (24) were accompanying each other from an unknown location when they were confronted by two unknown suspects.

“The complainants state that they had first noticed a black car roaming around before the two men appeared on foot.

“One of the suspects pointed a gun at the three and demanded their phones and cash, and after they had taken these possessions, the suspects fled the scene,” says KwaThema SAPS spokesman W/O David Mphali.

The complainants went their separate ways. However, shortly after one of the victims got home at the Masimini Section, she heard gunshots being fired outside her home.

She peaked out the window and saw the same suspects who had just robbed them running towards the same black Toyota Yaris they had seen.

She then took down the registration number of the car, called the police and informed them of the two incidents that had just occurred. The sector police were able trace the suspects in the car.

“The suspects fled towards White City, avoiding the warning of the police, but the were finally cornered in Extension Six, where the police recovered 21 cellphones, two wristwatches, an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, three sports caps, two jackets and two bank cards.

“Upon investigation the police were also able to find out that the vehicle belongs to an uncle of one of the accused,” says Mphali.

The three suspects will soon appear in the Springs Regional Court.

Police are appealing to any community members who were recently robbed in the area to come forward and report their cases as the police continue with the investigation.

If the community members are able to describe or prove that their items were taken by these suspects, they can contact Detective W/O Bones Ntshangasi on 082 366 5666 so their goods can be returned to them, says Mphali.
