Trains are running smoothly

Kwatsaduza – Gauteng Metrorail has confirmed that its train services have been operational for the past two weeks, following the recent suspension late last month.

Train services were suspended in Springs, Daveyton and Dunswar as a result of increasing intimidation and assaults by commuters on train drivers and metro guards and the burning of trains.

Previously in a statement released late last month, Metrorail shared that since November at least 67 Metrorail drivers and guards had been attacked, putting their lives in danger.

However, spokesperson of Metrorail, Lillian Mofokeng, says since March 4, train services have been back and so far they had not experienced any problems as things have been running smoothly.

Commuter Sipho Sikhonsana says that he is happy that trains are back because passengers were struggling with transport while services were suspended.

Dorah Siyothula says that though it is good to see the trains operating, she hopes that commuters will find better ways of showing their frustration than intimidating and attacking train drivers and guards.
