Rapist goes behind bars

Duduza – A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for rape, and has been declared unfit to carry a firearm, after he appeared at the Nigel Court on March 16.

This comes after Peter Michael Mooa raped a teenage girl in Duduza on March 15, 2013.

According to police spokesperson, Capt Johannes Ramphora, the complainant, who was 16 years old at the time, was with her friend (16) on the day of the incident.

“The girls were on their way to collect books at the friend’s house when they came across Mooa, who was 28 years old then.

“We believe that the three knew each other, as Mooa offered to accompany the girls, but asked them to first go with him to his house as he needed to switch off the stove.

“When the three arrived at his home at about 5.20pm, he attempted to rape the friend, who managed to escape, then attacked and raped the complainant,” says Ramphora.

He adds that after the incident the teenage girl reported the matter at the police station. The police went to the man’s house, where they were able to corner and arrest him.
