According to motorists and taxi drivers, these potholes have been there for over a year now, with nothing being done by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM).
Madiba Street is one of the busiest streets in Tsakane and a main route for taxis and motorist coming from Duduza, going into Tsakane.
Calvin Lekhetho, a motorist and resident, says driving through that street always proves to be a challenge as motorist constantly have to drive into another lane to mind the potholes, which causes unnecessary traffic.
“It gets worse when we experience rainy weather because we have be extra cautious to not drive into the potholes, which are ridiculously deep,” he says.
Another motorist, Ricco Mkhontfo, says at night it is more dangerous because they are not as visible as during the day and you might burst your tyre if you are driving at a high speed.
“It’s not like it’s only one pothole; there are many, so when swerving away from one, you might drive into another one.
“This situation has resulted in motor vehicle accidents and pedestrians being put in danger when crossing the road,” says Mkhontfo.
Ward councillor Silas Letsimo declined to comment.
