Kwa-Thema NPO donates 100 winter hats and gloves to Nkabinde Primary learners

A newly established local NPO brought warmth to 100 Nkabinde Primary School learners with its first community outreach initiative.

Kwa-Thema – Nkabinde Primary School learners will brave the winter season after receiving a generous donation of 100 hats and gloves from Lebelo Larona Youth and Community Empowerment on July 28.

This donation marked the first community outreach initiative organised by the local NPO, which was registered in April.

The founder, Kamogelo Skosana (27), was overjoyed to see her vision of giving back come to life.

“This is something I have wanted to do for a long time but procrastinated. Eventually I made the decision to finally take that leap of faith,” she said.

The school selected 100 learners from different grades to receive the hats and gloves. Skosana explained why she chose Nkabinde Primary.

“I always pass here when I go to work and I have noticed that some learners go to school without hats, shivering in the cold weather.

“I made a poster asking the community for donations to help make this season a little more bearable for them,” Skosana said.

She added that the challenging part of starting an NPO is getting people to donate.

“Not everyone believes in donating. I knocked on many doors, and some people were simply not interested. But I didn’t allow that to deter me.

To anyone who wants to make a difference in the community, I want you to know that it’s never too late to start,” she said.

Principal Vusi Nkabinde expressed his gratitude for the generous contribution.

“We have learners who come from disadvantaged backgrounds, and although they persevere and come to school, you can see that it affects them negatively and can even lead to absenteeism.

“Receiving these essential items will make them more optimistic about showing up at school and doing their best,” Nkabinde explained.
