Three-year old boy survives alleged witchcraft attack

Langaville - A-three-year old boy survived an alleged witchcraft attack last Sunday in Langaville.

The child was found with his hands and legs tied, his head covered with a sack and cuts on his wrists, ankles and his left eye.

According to the mother of the child, Busisiwe Nkambule, it was a typical Sunday morning around 9am when after breakfast her son went outside to play with his friends.

Not worrying, Nkambule assumed her son was playing with his friends from next door as usual.

“It was when I went to check on him at around 10am, I realised my son and his friends were not on the street where they were playing.

“I then went next door to check if he was there but to my shock he wasn’t,” says Nkambule.

She started panicking as she was puzzled where her son could be, so she assumed he had followed his grandmother to church, which is in another section in Langavillle.

But when she got to the church she was shattered to learn that her son wasn’t there.

She went back to her house and alerted community members and neighbours that her son had gone missing.

While everyone was searching for the missing boy, two men claimed they found a child in a nearby veld and called the police, who took the child.

“The one man claims he was walking through the veld with his dog only to hear a child screaming for help and as he looked in the direction where the voice was coming from, he saw his feet,” says the mother.

The man went to a nearby house to ask for help so they may call the police.

“My son was taken to Pholosong Hospital, where he was admitted and treated for the cuts.

“I’m so happy that my son is alive, I can’t imagine what could have happened to my son if the passer- by didn’t walk by when he did.

“I suspect whoever did this wanted to use my son’s body parts and blood for witchcraft but was disturbed by the man coming.

“Why else would a person do this to a child of his age? I really don’t see the motive besides witchcraft,”explains Nkambule.

The child was discharged from hospital on Tuesday and the whole family is going for counselling as this ordeal has left them traumatised.

“I want to thank the community of Langaville Extension Two and the man who found my son because I don’t want to imagine what could have happened to him,” adds Nkambule.

The boy was found with his ankles bound and cut.
