Choir festival in Tsakane
Tsakane – Community members were spoilt to some sweet sounds when the Tsakane Home of the Aged hosted a choir fundraiser on Wednesday.
The choir festival took place at the Tsakane community hall where choirs from Kathorus and Kwatsaduza came to support and participate in the festivities.
Tsakane Home of the Aged centre manager, Amos Motha says the choir festival rotates from one organisation to another so they are able to raise funds for different projects.
“We face numerous challenges as senior citizen organisations and the Department of Social Development cannot always offer assistance for programmes that we run, therefore we have to find other means to keep our organisations running.
“For instance, sometimes we don’t have the finances to buy material for our artwork or have issues to get uniforms for different sporting codes, so we fundraise to be able to meet our needs,” says Motha.
He adds that senior citizens should be encouraged to join senior citizen organisations in their communities so they are able to raise concerns and be heard as members of the society.
“There is so much to be done in order to reinforce proper treatment of senior citizens in the community,” adds Motha.
