A donation for Mandela Day
Duduza – To celebrate and commemorate Mandela Day, the Greater Nigel Economic Forum (GNEF) donated food parcels and party packs to the Nigel Caring Community Centre in Duduza.
The centre takes care of the many less privileged children and community members on a daily basis, providing them with three meals a day.
Chairperson of GNEF, Notsikelelo Cebekhulu (42), explains the importance of local business giving back to the community that supports them.
The organisation gives back to the community through various donations they make throughout the year.
“As small-business owners we wanted to show that we care about our community, because it is them who make it possible for us to run our businesses.
“We know that our community is faced with the scourge of poverty and unemployment, which makes children victims of poverty; so we wanted to do our bit to help where our help is needed,” says Cebekhulu.
This was the very first time the organisation donated to the drop-in centre this year and they say it will be an annual donation they will be making going forward.
Project manager, King Xaba (51) says he is at a loss for words after various organisations made their way to the centre to donate and celebrate Mandela Day with them.
“I wish Mandela Day could be every day so the children may be this happy on a daily basis,” says Xaba.
