Sport club gives back
Tsakane – The Tsakane Kyokushinkan Club visited the old age home in the area, to plant vegetables for the elderly.
The visit on Friday was part of the club’s Mandela Day celebrations, done with the aim of teaching the youth the spirit of giving.
“We went to the centre to ask for space, where we could prepare land and plant a variety of vegetables which, once grown, can be consumed by the elderly of the centre, and they agreed.
“Everyone at the club then helped with contributions so we could buy 10 trays of plants and seeds we could plant.
“Through this initiative, we are trying to teach our children the importance of giving back to others and contributing in the community, for the benefit of those who are in need,” says sensei Linda Ngubane.
Even though the team was unable to plant on all the land they had prepared, Ngubane says they will ensure they continue raising funds so they can go back to the home to plant more.
“We have made a commitment as a club that we will keep going back to check on the space and these vegetables.
“This was a great and exciting experience for our young people, as our mission is not just to train the youth at the gym, but to also give them life skills and teach them how to support the community in whatever way possible.
“It it time our youth learnt what it is to contribute so they can be proud of what they have done,” he says.
