Seeping water still a problem
KwaThema - Coming outside to wet grass and puddles of water in his yard is the norm for Mphikeleli Ntuli, a resident of White City in KwaThema.
Ntuli explains that the walls of his house are starting to crack, his yard and grass are forever damp because of water seeping through the ground.
He explains that this has been happening for as long as he can remember and he is tired of reporting the issue to the municipality.
“I’m not the only one in my area who is facing this challenge, my neighbours are also having the very same problem and we all don’t know what to now,” he says.
One of his fears is that his house will start deteriorating and the walls might cave in.
He further states that during the rainy season it gets worse because his grass is constantly wet and his yard becomes muddy.
“My yard is an unbearable mess and I fear that one day my children or a visitor might slip when walking in the yard,” he adds.
KwaThema CCC manager, Andries Nkabinde says KwaThema has a problem with seeping water in various sections and it is one of the problems they are attending too.
“We have appointed consultants to try and solve the issue of seeping water, because most parts of the township is built on wetlands,” he says.
