This after the police followed up on information received from a 16-year-old learner from Tsakane Secondary School, who allegedly sold muffins that were suspected to have been laced with the drug.

He told told the police where he got the muffins.

Mngomezulu says after the incident the police paid an unannounced visit to Tsakane Secondary School.

“We searched 1 815 learners and found a Grade 10 learner in possession of drug powder within the school premises.

“The learner was arrested and detained at Tsakane SAPS detention facility,” she says.

Mngomezulu says they also found packets of dagga on the school premises but that the owner is unknown.

The school principal, Pearl Ngcobo, says the unannounced searches were a good idea.

“This is a good warning to the learners to abstain from using drugs.

“We are hoping that they will change their behaviour and attitude towards teachers,” she says.

Meanwhile, the police in the Ekurhuleni East Cluster conducted a joint Safer School Search operation at Buhlebemfundo Secondary School.
