OMO tackles maths literacy

Tsakane - “I am just glad that the app will encourage our leaners to do better in Mathematics. It is a core subject, we can’t do away with that,” says Principal Mohube.

Letsie Primary School played host to the kick-off of the OMO Ready for Life Schools Challenge on Friday.

The campaign is set to improve the maths literacy of 200 000 learners from 350 schools across South Africa.

“Encapsulated in the ethos of the Bright Future Vision for South Africa, Unilever is helping to create a brighter future for all South Africans,” said Ryan George, Senior Assistant Brand Manager for OMO.

This will be done through an interactive online learning platform on mobile phones, tablets and desktops – gadgets that most of the learners are familiar with.

Paballo Motloung explained to the learners how to download the app and how they will earn points.

“Once your parents register you online you need to go on and play the maths games. You will earn points for every right answer. There are also different levels,” says Motloung.

The app will also have a leader board where each learner can track their scores.

She added that, ”when you are on the app, remember that you are competing with learners from all over South Africa, not just the people in your school.”

Over and above having fun while learning, the learners stand a chance of winning great prizes.

The top 20 kids on the leader board (with one of their parents) will win a weekend at the Ready For Life Academy.

The learners will also receive R10 000 each toward their education.
