Vusi Radinne (30), the founder of the organisation, does all the coaching, which caters for all school-aged children, himself.

He says at first he did not believe he could bring his vision to life.

“I did not even go to a normal high school, but one for the mentally challenged, in Daveyton.

“Why would anyone take me seriously?” he asks.

To make matters worse, in February, only a month after he established Dream Team, his uncle fell ill and he now has to take care of him.“I had to stop being active in the team, but the children would always come to me and ask me to come back.

“That is when I knew that I was making a tangible difference in my community.”

That is when he came up with the slogan, “Don’t let our future go up in smoke.”

Thokozani Mhlanga, the master of ceremonies at the launch, says he is very grateful that something so powerful and effective has come out of Overline.

“Our section has always been undermined in KwaThema.

“We are just known for dropping out of school and being drunks.

“I was one of those statistics until I changed my life,” he says.

Mhlanga says that without good guidance, it is easy to make the wrong decisions when you are young.

Zanele Nyakale, councillor of ward 78, said she is very proud of Radinne and the initiative.

She says the metro is committed to helping the organisation and she hopes the children will take full advantage of the facilities available to them.
