Pageant king inspires peers

Mr Face of KwaThema 2016, Sizwe Mngomezulu, chose to celebrate Youth Month by inspiring and empowering his peers to pursue greatness in spite of the challenges they face.

KwaThema – Mr Face of KwaThema 2016 and pageant king, Sizwe Mngomezulu chose to celebrate Youth Month by inspiring and empowering his peers to pursue greatness in spite of the challenges they face.

“When I won the title last year the organisers challenged me to use the platform to put together an event that would uplift the community, and that is how I came up with ‘The Anchor’, he explains.

Sizwe says that his main aim was to equip learners with as much information as possible about tertiary institutions and funding.

“I was fortunate enough to go to a school where institutions would come and present the services they offer, but I know that in most schools in KwaThema this does not happen,” he explained. He added that it was equally important to shine the spot light on small businesses that are run by young people ekasi.

“I am all about uplifting local brands,” he says.

Sizwe also invited struggle veterans Paul Ramoso, Themba Sibeko and and Itumeleng Lukhele to motivate the youth present. Former Laban Mothlabi learner, Sibeko, says that political education is important so that learners are aware of the struggle that was fought for them to enjoy today.

“I believe that we achieved the freedom we were fighting for. We just need to focus more on education now.

Free, dynamic and compulsory education,” he explained.

Sibeko, who is the director of Jabulani Mahlangu Memorial Centre, added that the youth also face a new struggle for economic freedom.

“We want people who are ready to make things happen and not people who complain about the state they are in.”
