Concession for learners who missed Black Monday exams

“Even the learners who accessed the centres beyond the one hour cut-off time were also allowed into the exam centres, while others were allowed to write at alternative centres."

Kwatsaduza – The MEC for Basic Education, Panyaza Lesufi, has confirmed that Grade 12 learners who missed their exams on Monday will be given a concession.

This is after a number of learners were late for their exams or missed them completely because of the Black Monday protest against violence on farms which took place across the country on November 30.

Lesufi says all learners who arrived late at the different centres were allowed into the examination rooms, where the key subjects of mathematics and accounting were among those being examined.

“Even the learners who accessed the centres beyond the one hour cut-off time were also allowed into the exam centres, while others were allowed to write at alternative centres.

“Administrative prescripts will be invoked to all those who might have missed Monday’s paper.”

According to Lesufi, the majority of learners who arrived late were afforded an opportunity to write their exam.

His department therefore expects minimal exceptional cases of learners who might have missed their paper.

“It is in our best interest not to disadvantage our learners for the unfortunate eventuality, which was beyond their control,” he said.

“It is regrettable that they had to write this important paper under this tormenting condition.”
