Local tavern robbed by four men, no one arrested

KwaThema – Four men robbed Ma Ola’s Tavern along Mope Street in Bacerlona Extension 2 on Sunday evening.

It is alleged Bandlile Ngwenya (24), the son of the tavern owner Beauty Tshabalala (59), was at the tavern with other customers.

KwaThema police spokesperson Captain Thabo Sibuyi says it is alleged four men entered the store and took different tables, pretending to be customers.

“One of them stood at the door and the other went to the counter as if he had intentions of buying alcohol.

“Bandile went to the counter to offer service to the one at the counter but the customer pulled a gun on him, demanding cash.

“He hit him with the butt of the gun on the back of his head and he fell to the ground.

“Beauty was sleeping at the time when he heard a noise coming from the tarvern.

“She immediately went to investigate when she was also hit by the butt of the gun on her head,” says Sibuyi.

Sibuyi says the men took six packs of Savanna and R720 in cash.

“On their way out they also hit two customers with the gun on their heads.

“Two people were rushed to Pholosong Hospital by ambulance.

“No shots were fired and no one has been arrested thus far,” says Sibuyi.
