Sibusiso to fight for provincial maths title

“We are expecting him to perform to his best abilities in the provincial competition to be able to progress to the nationals.”

KwaThema – Sibusiso Ndebele from Theo Twala Primary School will be representing Ekurhuleni in the provincial Mental Maths Challenge at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown, Johannesburg, on October 24.

The nine-year-old obtained the first position in the local and district competitions which started on September 5 at Masimini Primary School.

Class teacher Ntombizodwa Sedia describes Sibusiso as having a mathematical brain.

“In class, he solves mathematical problems faster without using counters, rather using his brain.”

Sedia says to prepare for the competition they stay behind after school for extra lessons.

“We have been putting in the hard work to make sure he is ready for the competition and so far he has not disappointed us.

“We work on the previous question papers not only for this grade but also for Grade Four and Five.

“I also give him homework to work on with the help of his parents.

“We are expecting him to perform to his best abilities in the provincial competition to be able to progress to the nationals,” she says.
