Tsakane school receives resource centre

Tsakane – Learners at Tsakane Extension Eight Secondary School received a new fully equipped resource centre from OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday.
The resource centre has a science lab, library and study area, complete with furniture.
Each structure is set up to provide learners with experimental learning and further enhance the confidence of the educators.

The school has a challenge of overcrowding, which led to limited resources.
Speaking at the handover, the airport general manager, Bongiwe Pityi-Vokwana, says the construction of the resource centre was part of their responsibilities to the communities around the airport.
“We aim to positively uplift the communities within which we operate by facilitating access to sustainable social and economic solutions such as these.

“We are pleased to be able to make a tangible contribution to the school.
“Our main objective of this donation is not only to resolve the overcrowding problem but also enhance learner performance,” she explains.
“We hope this new study centre will help produce sterling results in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), and, in the long run, reduce shortage skills which mainly require STEM subjects,” she adds.
