Leaders pray for safety on the roads
“We cannot continue losing lives on our roads, especially during the festive season, and act as if there is nothing wrong."
Duduza – Churches and traditional leaders gathered to pray for a divine intervention during a prayer session held along Tonk Meter Road on Thursday morning.
They were praying divine intervention against road accidents and gender-based violence in the area.
The session saw different religious and faith groups pouring their hearts out in prayer for the safety of motorists and the protection of women and children against violence.
Rev Molebogeng Modupi says as faith leaders they felt the need to call for intervention, especially on the main roads.
“We are tired of seeing people dying on the roads because they don’t respect other motorists or use their phones while they are driving.
“If we all do what is right and follow the rules of the roads many lives will be spared.
“We are also calling on men to respect their women and children.
“They should stop solving their differences through violence; we are also encouraging victims of abuse to report it to the police,” she says.

Duduza police spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka urged motorists to be mindful, considerate and patient while on the road, especially during the festive season.
“We cannot continue losing lives on our roads, especially during the festive season, and act as if there is nothing wrong.
“We need to start working together as the police, law enforcement agencies and road users to fight this.
“It is all of our responsibility to abide by the rules of the road,” he says.
