Park finally completed

KwaThema – The construction of the R1-million worth eco-gym in Highland Ward 78 is finally over amidst the challenges of non-payment of employees and constructors.
This is part of the Lungile Mtshali Developmental Projects which was initiated in 2014 and focuses on energy efficiency, water and sanitation, wetlands rehabilitation, waste management and greening and landscaping, including the renovation of parks.

The work of the project started on May 13 and was expected to be completed by the end of June, but the handover had to be postponed a few months due to delays.
Ward 78 Clr Zanele Nyakale says she is happy they are finally able to hand over the park to the residents.
“We were embarrassed by the delays due to the employees downing tools for weeks because of lack of payments by the constructor.

“Now the people in Highland can also exercise and enjoy the park, like other residents.
“We are urging the residents to take care of the park and protect it from vandalism.
“In recent months, we have seen other parks in other wards been vandalised, which is a big concern for the municipality,” she adds.
