Masoja calls out gender based violence

KwaThema- KwaThema born and bred actor and musician, Masoja Msizi has dropped his latest album title Time to Rhyme.

Masoja is famously known for his notorious role as a crime boss in Umlazi township on the local drama, Uzalo, aired weekly on SABC 1.

The 13 tracked album of poems narrated in both English and Nguni languages are lined with classical instruments which help carry his coarse voice.

The poems are dedicated to encouraging men to stop gender-based violence against women and children.

Masoja says as a man he is concerned about the number of women and children who are abused and killed as if their lives don’t matter.

“I feel as men we are not speaking out loud and condemning this barbaric act to a point that many are now normalising the scourge.

“In our townships, we tend to celebrate men who beat-up their women,” he adds.

The poet says through this album he is challenging men to search deeper in their soul and identify what is the reason they are so angry and why they feel the need to hurt women.

“I believe the one contributing factor is that men are brainwashed not to cry and toughen up whenever they go through curveballs in their lives.

“This is wrong; we are human beings and also go through emotional and life-changing moments in our lives.

“We need to take a stand, pray and call-out men who feel they have the God-given power to impose their masculinity on others.

“We need to start grooming a better future of men who take responsibility for their actions and protect its women.

“We cannot continue as if everything is fine when we still don’t know where is Amahle Thabethe who went missing earlier this year is,” he explains.
