SANBS needs blood urgently as blood banks are running low

Tsakane – Pholosong Hospital personnel were at the forefront as the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) camped out at the hospital, waiting for potential donors.

“This one is mainly because of the high shortage of blood stock.
“As much as we are encouraging the public to come donate, we also plead with medical professionals who have a better understanding of how crucial the issue is to also donate blood.”
He says their target is to have 40 people donate as they currently have a three-day stock which is very low, as they need to have a seven day stock in advance.
Blood donor Nthabiseng Kokwana, who works at the hospital, says: “I know from personal experience how vital it is to donate blood, my aunt was once in need as she suffered from anaemia and us getting blood for her was a challenge.
“Supplements sometimes do not help and blood is needed, so I encourage people to not be afraid to donate blood,” says Kokwana.

“Your blood can save someone’s life, you never know, it could be you tomorrow needing blood as well,” says Mabogoane.
