KwaThema – Warren Masombuko from St John’s College has made his community proud by achieving six distinctions in the 2019 Independent Examinations Board (IEB) matric examinations.
He achieved 98 per cent in dramatic arts, 92 per cent for isiZulu and 91 per cent for history and distinctions in maths, English and life orientation.
After he completed his primary school education at Selpark Primary School, his parents applied for the Student Sponsorship Programme scholarship (SSP).

The sponsorship is for gifted children from under-resourced homes to attend one of the top 25 independent and public high schools nationwide.
The application was an in-depth 10-month process, which included an entrance exam, interviews with his parents, and tests to assess his IQ and emotional quotient (EQ).
The scholarship programme includes tuition, personal mastery and mentorship.
It concluded with a finalist camp to assess peer interaction and Warren was chosen to attend St John’s College in Sandton and soon excelled academically and culturally.
Warren says he owes his success to his family, who are very supportive and always encourage each other to strive for the best, despite the challenges that might come their way.

“Sport and the arts are important to me. I played basketball, hockey and took part in the dramatic arts.
“I also appreciate the mentorship offered through the SSP because I feel it is important to receive guidance from someone who has been through what you are going through, so you can make informed decisions that will lead you in the right direction,” he adds.
Warren adds that he plans to venture into business to provide a service that will socially uplift South Africa.
