Duduza – Residents who have buried their loved ones at the Vlakfontein Cemetery are concerned about the graves which were washed away by a flood of water from a burst pipe last week Monday. It is alleged a water pipe from the Dunnottar Reservoir, which crosses through the cemetery, burst, resulting in over 30 graves being damaged, said concerned resident Ronnie Mahlangu. “I was shocked by what I saw at the cemetery.

“The grave, together with those close to it, was washed away. The only thing that helped me identify the grave was the headstone.

“Some of the graves that didn’t have headstones were washed away. “This will make it difficult for loved ones to find them,” said Mahlangu.

Ward 111 councillor Tshepiso Mondlane said only one grave situated on top of the pipe was badly affected. “We have fixed it and those that were partially damaged. “We have also fixed the water and electricity connection at the grave site,” he added. Follow us on: ![]()
