Family demands justice
Thuli Duze, the victim's mother, said they have opened a case of assault with local police.
Kwa-Thema – The family of Romeo Duze (34) are demanding justice after he was severely beaten, allegedly by five taxi drivers, at the Kwa-Thema Duduza Taxi Rank last Wednesday.
It remains unclear as to what might have prompted the altercation.
Thuli Duze, the victim’s mother, said they have opened a case of assault with local police.

“My son usually goes to the taxi rank for his driving lessons.
“Witnesses allege he was standing by the corner prior to the incident when these men approached him.
“It is unclear what they were talking about, but a few minutes later they started punching and kicking him,” she claimed.
She added he tried fleeing the scene but was chased by the occupants of a Quantum taxi.
“When he tried running away, they chased him with a car.
“That’s when they continued to beat him,” she said.

According to the taxi rank manager, George Matlala, the man was seen urinating by the drivers.
“What I was told is he was urinating on the premises and when he was confronted, he started calling them names.
“We do not condone violence and they should have brought the matter straight to me, as I was in the office.
“However, the matter is now in the hands of the police,” he stated.
