According to residents, the blockage was causing havoc when it rained as water would pool up in the area, making using the street extremely difficult.

Using the street becomes a huge challenge, especially for residents.
“One could not walk here without getting wet and it was unsafe for the children as well,” said resident Sabelo Gumbi.
He added that residents must refrain from littering and throwing rubbish in the drains.

Residents of Barcelona in Kwa-Thema fixed the blocked stormwater drain after months of struggling with rain water.

“We cannot solely put the blame on the metro, we must also take responsibility for our own actions. We need to change our behaviour and start doing better.
“Such things end up affecting us and our daily lives.”
