Clothes and shoes for Mkhancwa residents

Three friends donated clothing and shoes to residents of the Mkhancwa informal settlement.

Mkhancwa – The second leg of the Izandla Ziyagezana initiative by a group of young people from Kwatsaduza took place in the Mkhancwa informal settlement community plot on Saturday.
The group donated clothing and shoes collected through their initiative and gave out lollipops and snacks to the children on the day.
The initiative is the brainchild of three friends: Tumelo Mdhluli, Nonkululeko Kgabo and Bongiwe Naidoo.
With support from the community, other young people volunteered on the day.

“We chose this place as it is an informal settlement and people are in dire need.
“We figured every little bit of help would make a difference.
“We wanted to show them they are loved, important and matter to us, as they form part of our society,” said Mdhluli.

The organisers expressed gratitude to those who contributed in making the event a success.
“The response from the community at large has been amazing.
“People were able to reach us and communicate with us through our social media platforms.
“We all have clothes which are still in good condition but for whatever reasons we do not wear them anymore, so why not pass them on to those who will put them to good use?” said Naidoo.
People can still make contributions and donations by contacting the organisers on 067 093 9183 or 067 736 0520.

They also urge those who would like to make donations of food to do so.
“We are trying to reach as many people as possible.
“We want to make a difference in the lives of so many Kwatsaduza residents who are in need, which is why we are pleading with the community to donate, whether it be vegetables, canned foods or whatever they have and are willing to share with others,” added Naidoo.
