Fake police officers rob resident

Tsakani – The Zone 3 Serious Crime Team arrested a 29-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man for house robbery in Mahlabathini Street, Tsakani Extension One on Thursday.
The arrested pair pretended to be police officers to gain entrance to the victim’s house.
It is alleged the victim heard someone attempting to break into the house but scared them off.
Tsakani police spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu said the victim later received a call from a private number at 4.15am from an unknown female.

“The caller introduced herself as a police officer who was patrolling in the area and claimed, while driving past the victim’s house, she saw someone running out of the yard, who she chased without success.
“During their telephone conversation she mentioned she wanted to help the victim open a case and make sure everything is in order, and for the police investigation to resume.
“The victim let the woman, who was in the company of her alleged colleague, into the house.
“While the woman was pretending to be taking a statement from the victim, her partner threatened the victim at gunpoint and instructed him to lie down.

“They robbed him of his television and cellphone,” she said.
Mngomezulu added the two fled the scene in a Volkswagen Polo Vivo.
“The victim managed to take down the car registration, which led to the duo’s arrest,” he said.
