Mamellong proud of results despite drop in pass rate

Tsakani – Out of 151 learners who wrote their final year exams at Mamellong Comprehensive School, 111 passed.
The school’s pass rate dropped by 18.5 per cent compared to last year’s results of 92 per cent.
The school obtained 37 bachelor passes, 41 diploma admissions and 33 higher certificate admissions.
School principal Molefe Mokgadi said most learners were not committed to the extra classes due to fears of Covid-19.

“Our pass rate might have dropped but our results are that of quality, which is the most important.
“I am pleased with the work of the learners, staff members and support staff as well as the help of parents.
“Without their support, we would not have made it,” said Mokgadi.
Learner Sibusiso Sithole obtained five distinctions.

He achieved 97% for mathematics, 93% for physical science, 85% for geography, 86% for life sciences and 86% for life orientation.
“I am extremely happy, excited and at best motivated.
“I am thankful for the support and love I got during 2020, which was difficult especially with regards to learning.
“None of this would have been possible without the support from my family, friends and teachers,” said Sithole.

He has applied to study medicine at Medunsa and mechanical engineering.
Another one of the school’s top learners was Sunday Chingubo, who obtained a distinction in mathematics.
He explained the year 2020 taught him discipline.

“I have learned that self-discipline is key to overcoming challenges.
“Joining online sessions and being part of the Star School initiative really helped,” he said.
