Lefa-Ifa matric results take a knock
The school had an overall pass rate of 45.3 per cent, which is a significant drop from the 85 per cent pass rate for the class of 2019.
Kwa-Thema – Lefa-Ifa Secondary School saw a 50 per cent plunge in their matric results.
Sixty-eight of the 151 learners who write the exams failed to pass.

Learners obtained 28 bachelor’s pass admissions, 28 diploma admissions and 12 higher certificate admissions.

School principal Mzanywa Shongwe said the results are due to poor planning.
“Perhaps we failed to plan properly, especially after returning to schools after the lockdown last year. However, we cannot solely blame Covid-19 as we were not the only school affected by the pandemic.
“We had 37 incomplete results, but from our side we submitted everything,” he explained.
This is the biggest drop the school has seen in decades.
“We have been conducting meetings with our staff since schools reopened, and are planning on working on the mistakes we might have made.

“Going forward, we are planning on showing the highest level of commitment and are ready to hit the ground,” he said.
He added the school has already started with the implementation of extra classes for the Class of 2021.
“We are definitely not happy with the performance. We have no excuse for it, but we want to assure parents that we are definitely working to fix it.
“As much as we haven’t fully accepted the situation, our hearts are broken and we fully understand we owe parents an apology. They know as a school we have always done our best,” he said.
