Man (19) killed over R30
The 19-year-old was shot and killed in full view of his friends last Saturday.
Kwa-Thema – When Sinenhlanhla Zwane went to demand his R30 change from an alleged drug dealer, little did he know he was walking into a death trap.
The 19-year-old was shot and killed in full view of his friends last Saturday.
On Monday morning, a group of angry residents picketed outside the Springs Magistrate’s Court, demanding the court deny bail to the suspect or they will take the law into their own hands.
The deceased’s friend, Nhlanhla Ranyabu, said his friend was killed like an animal in front of him.
“I know he was a drug addict, but he didn’t deserve to die like that. I can still see the incident playing in my head,” he explained.
“When Sinenhlanhla told the suspect he was there to collect his R30, he became angry and started hurling insults.”
He told him he previously warned him to stop pestering him and pulled out a gun. Ranyabu pleaded with him not to shoot, but he didn’t want to hear reason.

He shot Zwane in the forehead and his body fell into a refuse bin.
Ranyabu added that out of shock, he ran for safety and blacked out for three days.
The deceased’s mother, Victoria Msizi, said she found out about her son’s death three days later on social media.
“My eldest son saw a post on Facebook saying ‘RIP Sinenhlanhla Zwane’ and immediately informed me.
“We carried out a search party at his friend’s home and they said they saw him the day before,” she explained.
The following day, a friend of the family informed the mother there were talks on the street that he was killed by the suspect.
“We went to the suspect’s home and found blood stains where he died. His sister confirmed he was killed in their yard,” she added.
The case was postponed to Friday for a formal bail application.
