High-density operations lead to numerous arrests

Ekurhuleni – High-density suspect tracing operations conducted by Ekurhuleni District Police Stations on Saturday saw the arrest of 99 suspects.
In a statement released by spokesperson Capt Neldah Sekgobela, it was revealed 249 dockets were opened and police arrested 35 suspects for assault, three related to domestic violence issues, two for rape, three for attempted murder, two for sexual assault and seven for armed and common robbery.

“Other suspects were arrested for cases such as malicious damage to property, housebreaking, possession of hijacked motor vehicles, possession of stolen motor vehicles, possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of stolen property, theft, intimidation, human trafficking, fraud, pointing a firearm, theft of cables, contravention of the Disaster Management Act, culpable homicide, resisting arrest, contravention of a protection order and contravention of a court order.
“Members also seized a white Mercedes-Benz, which was reported stolen in Kagiso last month,” she explained.
Still, in Ekurhuleni, parallel to those operations, a white Ford Ranger, which was reported stolen in Rustenburg in June and an Isuzu bakkie, Toyota Quantum, four firearms (two AK-47 rifles, two semi-automatic rifles), 50 9mm rounds and 120 rounds of rifle ammunition were also recovered in Norkem Park, and two suspects were arrested after a car hijacking incident and accident scene.
