Community still searches for missing child four years later

Tsakani – It has been four years since Amahle Thabethe went missing.
The eight-year-old was playing with friends on April 6, 2019, when an unknown man asked her for directions. The other children ignored him, but Amahle offered to direct him to the address.
That was the last time anyone saw or heard from her.
November 25 is Amahle’s birthday. This year is the fourth birthday away from her family and loved ones.
As part of keeping her memory alive, the One Strong Voice Foundation held a candlelight prayer ceremony across the country in primary schools.
A tree was planted and a donation drive carried out at her school, Anzac Primary School in Brakpan, an initiative that will be carried out annually in her name.

On Thursday afternoon, a candlelight ceremony was held outside her home, with residents participating and pleading for her safe return.
Brian Sithole from One Strong Voice Foundation said it is heartbreaking that the community has carried out searches, marched and pleaded with the abductors but nothing has come of it.
“All the children who went missing before and after her have been found, either alive or dead, but not her.
“We want to know what happened to the little girl. Her family and community deserve these answers. She needs to be found and returned to her mother,” he said.
Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora said investigations are still underway and they are following up on different leads they receive.
“We are calling on the public to continue working with the police to help find her,” he added.
