Parents frustrated over children’s school placements
Most parents said they hold the department responsible for not processing their online applications in time regarding the placements of their children.
Frustrated parents took it upon themselves to queue at the Department of Education’s East District office in Springs to seek answers about the placement of their children in schools.
Most parents said they hold the department responsible for not processing their online applications in time.
Parents raised concerns that they submitted all the necessary documents online but the department selected schools for which they did not apply.
They also said most of the schools the department selected for them were not recognised online as their second option while applying.

Some of the parents complained about the distance between the schools. They said it will be far for their children to walk to and from school as they cannot afford transport money.
Issues that were raised were that the schools are not yet accepting their children while they applied. Uniforms need to be bought but it is yet not clear at which schools the children had been accepted to.
The online system appears to have taken away the autonomy of the schools.
