Grieving mother finally buries her child

Langaville – The Mashiri family was finally able to bury their daughter two weeks after she was fatally struck by a police car.
Blessing Chibaya (15) was killed while crossing Majola Road with her six-year-old sister on her back.
Residents donated funds towards transporting the body to their home country of Zimbabwe on Tuesday for the burial.
Chibaya was certified dead on the scene while her sister was rushed to the local hospital.
The family struggled to put together funds to prepare for Chibaya’s funeral since her mother is unemployed.
Overwhelmed with emotions, Revai Mashiri (35) said she didn’t know how she was going to afford to give her daughter a dignified funeral.

“I lost my job in November due to Covid-19. I was only able to maintain a family funeral cover though it was not enough to cover the expenses.
“I am grateful for the support I have received from the community, my family and fellow Zimbabweans,” said an emotional Mashiri.
The distraught mother added that she is still struggling to come to terms with her loss.
“No one can understand my pain. What hurts the most is the culprit didn’t apologise for his actions.
“We are not even updated about the developments of the case,” she said.
Mabel Veremu, a friend of Revai’s, said the family had no money and desperately needed financial help.
“Chiyaba was visiting for the school holidays and was meant to go back home next month.
“We are deeply traumatised by the incident. It will take a long time to erase the images of the scene from our memory,” explained Veremu.
Chiyaba was buried on Thursday in Zimbabwe.
