Gogo Masinga celebrated by loved ones
She was part of the board that built pre-schools in Tsakani.
Tsakani – Family and friends joined in the festivities to celebrate the 85th birthday of gogo Nontombi Lillian Masinga at Faranani Multipurpose Centre last weekend.
The event was organised by her grandchildren to honour her for the role she played in their lives over the years.
As a committed member of the Brakpan/Tsakani community, Masinga founded uMaghona at Brakpan Clinic to feed needy children, receiving sandwiches and milk daily.
Masinga was also part of the board that built pre-schools in Tsakani, one of which is Thabong Pre-School. In addition, she was a board member of the Tsakani Old Age Home and EK FM.

She started her schooling at Methodist Church Primary School in Payneville and proceeded to Tlakula Secondary School, where she completed Form Five.
Grandchild Prudence Moeketsi said they are truly grateful to have her in their lives and promise to hold on to the profound life lessons she has taught them.
“We thank her for being such a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to us. We appreciate her thoughtfulness and love and hope she had a truly awesome 85th birthday,” she said.
Masinga studied general nursing and midwife training at Baragwanath Hospital in 1956 and later obtained her BA in nursing from the University of South Africa.

On September 23, 1963, she married Joseph Jubane Masinga and had two sons and a daughter.
She is blessed with nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Masinga worked at Baragwanath Hospital, where she trained as a midwife and general nurse, and then moved to Klerksdorp Hospital, where she worked for four years.
She then proceeded to Brakpan Clinic, where she served for eight years.
She also worked in Pollak Park and at Pholosong Hospital, where she became a matron and later retired.
