Desperate jobseekers respond to a scam
“I thought the post was legit because it was advertised on a notice board in a government building.”
Kwatsaduza – Scammers are targeting young, desperate, unemployed youth through job scams circulating on social media.
The posts vary from vacancies in government departments, SAPS and emergency services.
A group of desperate youth flocked to the Duduza EMS offices on Wednesday morning to submit their applications to the advertised posts.
They were shocked, however, when they were told there are no advertised positions in the department.
The group lamented that the officials already had their own people they wanted to fill the positions.
Applicant Segopotso Sehume said he saw the advertised positions at the Benoni Customer Care Centre and decided to apply.

“I thought the post was legit because it was advertised on a notice board in a government building.
“We no longer know who to trust because criminals are now using government infrastructure to trick residents,” he explained.
Another concerned applicant, Neo Mokoena, said they no longer know where to find legitimate vacancies.
“Everywhere we try to find legit posts, we are warned that they are scams. Even when we apply for advertised positions in the metro, we are told they are scams,” he added.
Meanwhile, another job scam is doing the rounds about vacancies at the SAPS.
Kwa-Thema police spokesperson Const Nkululeko Magudulela warned jobseekers that there are no vacancies for new recruits to join the department at the moment.
“SAPS vacancies are advertised on the official website, saps.gov.za/careers/career, and will never ask for a fee for an advertised post,” he added.
