College cleans unsafe intersection
“Every morning when I go for my jog, I fear for my safety when I approach the corner.”
Kwa-Thema – Officials from Ekurhuleni East College (EEC) took it upon themselves to cut the long grass on the corner of Kgaswane and Motlhaping streets on Monday.
The intersection was covered with long grass, preventing motorists from seeing cars travelling from the opposite direction.
College assistant director in marketing and communications Zuko Mbolekwa said they were concerned about the safety of students and motorists who use the intersection daily.
“The intersection is also close to two social areas frequented by young people on weekends and mostly at night.
“We fear criminals might target unsuspecting residents or even students and rob them of their valuables, if not worse,” he explained.

Mbolekwa urged residents to join their campaign to keep Kwa-Thema clean and safe.
“We are happy some of the neighbours agreed to join us in clearing the area and committed to future campaigns,” he added.
Concerned resident Oupa Thima said they are grateful to the college for taking the initiative to clean the area.
“Every morning when I go for my jog, I fear for my safety when I approach the corner.
“The long grass made it impossible to see if there is a criminal hiding in there,” he said.
Thima hopes the initiative will encourage residents of Thembelisha to care about their environment and ensure it is safe.
