MMC adopts her former school

Kwa-Thema – The MMC for Community Services, Charlotte Zitha, announced her plans to adopt Kenneth Masekela Secondary School during her school shoe donation drive on Tuesday.
The MMC was donating 100 pairs of shoes at the school when she made the announcement.
Having matriculated at the school in 1998, she urged learners to focus on their studies.

“Education is not to be taken for granted. My plea to the learners is that they fall in love with their books.
“When the going gets tough, they should make arrangements with their educators for one-on-one sessions so they can be assisted.
“Learners must also listen to their teachers,” she said.

The drive is set to continue across the region, with over 500 school shoes set to be donated to various schools within Kwatsaduza by Friday.
Zitha said the shoes were made from recycled medical plastic bags and were donated by a pharmaceutical company.
“Charity begins at home, hence we chose this school.
“Though I cannot meet the needs of all the learners, I am willing to meet them halfway and work with the school’s management team,” she added.
The second school to receive the donation was Thuthukanisizwe Primary School in Tsakani.
Kenneth Masekela Secondary principal Jabulani Fakude said the partnership with the MMC will make a huge difference.
“A lot of our learners are from impoverished families.
“I believe if we didn’t have a feeding scheme, many of them wouldn’t survive.
“Also, some of our learners are without school uniforms.
“As a school, our teachers have adopted some learners as a means to lend a helping hand.
“So this partnership will have a positive impact because the poverty index in our school is very high.
“This was a beautiful surprise by the MMC,” he stated.
