Mpolokeng ready to make his mark
“I used to play soccer on the streets. I suppose that’s where my love for sport began.”
Kwa-Thema – Thirty-year-old Khunulogo Mpolokeng’s passion for sport is infectious.
He is the sports presenter of the 69 Express Breakfast Show, which airs Monday to Friday on EK FM from 06:00 to 09:00, as well as a sports blogger.
Mpolokeng has been part of the station for six years.
He went to Canon Rakale Primary School, now known as Sakhelwe Primary School, before moving to Laerskool Morester and attending Springs Secondary School.

He has a marketing management certificate from Ekurhuleni East College and holds a diploma in media practices, specialising in journalism, from Boston College.
“I used to play soccer on the streets. I suppose that’s where my love for sport began. I have always known that I love sport, especially soccer.
“When I was a child I used to play it by myself,” he said.
Mpolokeng said growing up he was exposed to a lot of sport-related content that fuelled his love for sport.
“I remember back in the days, the SABC used to have a show called The World of Soccer. I never missed it. When it comes to newspapers, I always read from the back page to the front. That’s just how much I am addicted to sport.”

According to Mpolokeng, sport has the power to unite nations.
“Someone once said sport is the most important of the least important things in life. I used to disagree with that statement, but I have since realised it is true in the context of everything that is happening in the world.
“But, with that said, sport has the incredible power to unite people. It offers an escape for that 90 minutes,” he explained.
With his experience in broadcasting and writing, he is of the view that to be a good sports journalist, you need to know your sport.
He emphasised the importance of not only watching sport but also reading about it.
“You need to make time to educate and empower yourself when it comes to sport. Talent alone can only take you so far.
“You need to be incredibly informed and have a sense of humour,” he said.
Mpolokeng’s dream is to become a sport columnist and host a sport show within the mainstream.
He also urged the community to support local media and said it tackles issues that speak directly to them by prioritising local content.
His favourite teams are Mamelodi Sundowns and Barcelona.
