Junior tennis players sharpen their skills

“We want the young players to be exposed to the different coaching methodologies offered by the different coaches.”

Kwa-Thema – As part of their annual calendar, Kwa-Thema Sparks Tennis Club held its first coaching clinics.
The event saw teams from Gauteng Central and Mpumalanga participating.
The event catered for junior players to expose them to new techniques and improve their skills.
The 186 junior players were exposed to fitness training, coaching clinics and mini-tournaments.
Team chairperson John Nkosi said this event exposed the junior players to the different skills and knowledge of the 14 coaches who facilitated the programme.

“We want the young players to be exposed to the different coaching methodologies offered by the different coaches.
“We want the players to one day compete and be celebrated internationally. For that to happen, we have to groom them as champions,” he explained.
Nkosi added the event was also an eye-opener for the young players who practice at fully furnished facilities.
“Our tennis court is poorly maintained and doesn’t have bathrooms or a water tap.
“The players are forced to use the bathrooms from the homes close to the facility, yet they are committed to the sport,” he explained.
Nkosi added they are encouraging young people to join and be active in the sport.
