Siyadlala Cup kicks off this weekend

Title holders RDP Masters will take on Tsakani Civil Servants on Sunday at the Malandela Ground.

One of Tsamaya Masters League’s two cup competitions, the Siyadlala Cup, will start in Tsakani, following the launch of this season’s tournament at Marothi’s Tavern in Kwa-Thema on Sunday.
RDP Masters have been drawn in Group B and will kick off the defence of their title with a game against the Tsakani Civil Servants at the Malandela Ground at 13:00.
RDP, along with Amajuba, AmaUber and Geluksdal Masters – who all occupy the top four spots in the league after the first 15 rounds – were seeded for the draw.
Amajuba will start their Group A campaign against World XI, while AmaUber, who are in Group C, play Sporo.
Both matches will also be at the Malandela Ground. Geluksdal should have the toughest challenge in their opening Group D match against Verbal Warning at the Mamellong School Ground.
All 16 teams will each play three group stage matches before the top two teams in each of the four groups move onto the quarter-finals.

George Ngoma, the Tsamaya League chairperson, was satisfied with the success of the tournament draw.
“I’m excited about the launch of the cup. It was a very successful launch and all teams were represented.
“It was the first time that we do the seeding, it makes it exciting.
“It’s going to be very challenging, but it’s good for all teams.
“Let’s give those who are playing well in the league an opportunity to avoid each other so that when we go into the knockout stages. You might find that the tournament becomes more exciting,” he said.
As usual, there will be a trophy and gold medals up for grabs, while the second and third-place finishers walk away with silver and bronze medals, respectively. Ngoma also confirmed that the lack of prize money is by design.
“The Tsamaya is a social league. We don’t want to play for money because we’ll find ourselves having to expose people to physical confrontation and all that.
“We are all adults; Tsamaya was designed to create brotherhood, so the incentives are just to encourage the teams to perform better,” he added.
