Sparks to fight social ills in sports.
Kwa-Thema – Young people participated in a safety awareness campaign hosted by Spark Active Play Organisation at Tlakula Tennis Court on Saturday.
The event was aimed at helping young participants regain their confidence and adopt a winning attitude.
It was made possible in conjunction with Dusty Sports Developers, Ikasi livukile Youth Programme and Sector One Community Safety.
Chairperson of the organisation Phindile Ndlovu said they use the power of sports to save lives by addressing and creating awareness on socio-economic issues affecting the young ones in their community.
“The members of the organisation are former athletes. Growing up we have seen some of our friends and teammates being swallowed by substance abuse and human trafficking. We decided to use our skills and experience to create awareness, especially in sports,” she explained.
The Spark Active Play still aims to develop sports clubs and educate young people about different types of sports and recreational games.
