Young people to unearth the history and legacy of Kwatsaduza
NPO to reflect on the legacy and history of Kwatsaduza.
Kwa-Thema – Project X is to help unearth the history and celebrate the movers and shakers of Kwatsaduza.
The youth NPO was formed in 2018 to embark on a journey to unearth and solidify the history of the towns and surrounding townships and the spirit of Ubuntu, which are authentic in their own right to our South African heritage.
Buti Maruping said they believe that as residents of Kwatsaduza they should know where they come from, understand where they are and know where they are going.
“The initiative came about when we, the young generation, of the towns and townships relatively do not know our history and ukwakhelana (being neighbourly) besides our ethnicity and cultures, or how the towns and townships came about or when they came into being.

“We felt we needed to know the movers and shakers of the past and present who helped shape our townships,” he explained.
He added that through their work they will focus on the architectural design of the towns and townships, the businesses, churches, politics, traditions, sports, arts and entertainment, the prominent people who had schools, roads, sections, and the names of the towns and townships and how they were conceived.
“As the elders who are the seed bearers of this data and information, we are pleading with you and everyone else to help share information and data within your homes, ledgers, and archives.
“Strife within our communities has left us in discord, therefore people would rather relocate than work on solutions to mitigate the social ills we have to make our homes and communities better,” he added.
Buti said they need the cooperation of everyone to make this work. It is so easy to get in contact with them – like, follow and share on the Facebook Project X NPO page.
He added they are hoping that the initiative will help unite and find ways of fighting the current problems faced by individuals, families and communities.
As the saying goes, ‘experience is the best teacher’. The more we gather and share information of old, the present builds on the foundation of the past so we can have new dawn whereby we respect and have dignity in ourselves and our fellow brethren.
