
Deceased: Zakhele Patrick Mashabane was born December 19, 1963, and died October 14 at Pholosong Hospital.
Education: He started his schooling at Emzimkhulu Primary School in 1970, went to Zakheni Primary School in 1975 and matriculated from MOM Sebone in 1982.
Career: He worked at Ergo, Thermal and Supreme Springs System.
Community: Mashabane was an activist against the apartheid regime and a member of the Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA).
He was detained at Modderbee prison under the state of emergency, along with his brother Vusi Mashabane, where they spent several months before he was admitted to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.
During the post-apartheid era, he joined the Duduza Educational Crisis Committee as deputy chairperson.
He served on the school governing bodies of Esibonelwesihle High School and MOM Sebone High School.
Family: He is survived by his four siblings, four children and two grandchildren.
Funeral: The service will take place on Saturday from 09:00 to 11:00 at the Duduza Anglican Church. The cortege will proceed to Vlakfontein Cemetery.
